36 years anniversary of Mongolian man in space will be held at Space Palace, Ulaanbaatar.

On this day on 22nd of March, 2017, 36 years ago, a Mongolian cosmonaut, Mr.Jugdermidiin Gurragchaa flew into space along with the Soviet cosmonaut, the twice hero of Mongolia and Russia, Mr. V.A. Janibekov by plane Soyuz-39 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome on 22nd of March, 1981.
For eight days of space travel, the two cosmonauts have circled the Earth 124 times and landed back on their home planet on 30th of March. It is certified that Mongolia became the 10th country in the world to send off a cosmonaut to space and 20th country, tested equipment in the space. The Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics of Mongolian Academy of Sciences, School of Mechanic Transport of the Mongolian University of Science and Technology and Children’s Invention Center celebrate together its’ anniversary of Mongolia’s Space Travel by organizing special events including “Short theoretical speeches” seminar for students, unique space-themed collection and missile performances for young inventors. The main purpose of this event is to support young inventors and to promote students’ achievements in the field of space science.
The event “Young inventors of a Happy City” will be held at the Space Palace of the Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics on 22nd March of 2017 at 11 a.m.

New directors appointed at Institutes
Yesterday/2017.02.20/ Mongolian Academy of Sciences’ branch institutes run director’s selection which approved under the decree No А/223 of Minister of Education, Culture and Science Ministry “Definition of common requirements for directorial position of science institutes (organization)” “Organizations’ under Mongolian Academy of Sciences selection and appointment and dismissal procedures” and appointed directors.
Doctor Sh.Ariunaa of Institute of Philosophies , doctor prof. G.Bilguudei of Institute of Language and Literature, doctor D.Battogtokh of Institute of Geography and Geology, doctor L.Jargalsaikhan of Chemistry and Chemistry technology got newly appointed as their institutes’ new director and started their work. However Sc.D J.Bayasakh of Institute of International Relations, Sc.D Ya.Adiya of Institute of General and test Biology, doctor Kh.Tsogtbaatar of Institute of Paleontology and Geology, doctor S.Chuluun of Institute of History and Archeology, doctor S.Demberel of Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics got appointed as director again. As for Institute of Physics and Technology director selection run last year on December and doctor L.Altandorj got appointed.
Geophysics career advertising day takes place
This annual year 12th “Geophysics career advertising day” is jointly organized by geology and geophysics departments of Science school of National university of Mongolia, geology and hydrogeology department of Geology mining school of Mongolian university of Science and technology, Mongolian geophysics association and Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics of Mongolian Academy of Sciences between 2016.12.10-2016.12.12. Advertising day’s main role is advertise geophysics profession to others, give right understanding and connects students who are studying geophysics to professional organization for job opportunities. On this day basketball, mixed volleyball, darts, ping pong, chess five traditional sport events are organized and students, teachers from Mongolian university of Science and National university of Mongolia, workers from professional company and organization participated actively. Also “Geophysics problems” science conference is successfully organized.
This year’s advertising day’s one distinction was that “Geophysicist’s one day” – geophysics career advertising day for secondary school pupils is organized first time at Mongolian university of Science and technology. These events will be organized further into an annual tradition.
