August 12th – Registration and evening Ice Breaker
A chance for participants to arrive, register and network informally.
August 13th – Multi-hazards across Asia
For this theme, we would like to explore the interacting nature of hazards across the continent. Earthquakes often cause landslides, which can lead to flooding. Volcanic eruptions lead to ashfall and subsequent mudflows (lahars). This means that building resilience must take a holistic approach to hazards, accounting for the wide range of impacts when building mitigation strategies. This is a crucial consideration as countries develop mitigation strategies for reducing the impacts of climate change.
Format: Keynote, Oral and poster presentations.
August 14th – Approaches to Disaster Management
For this theme, we will explore examples of disaster planning, management, and mitigation in scales ranging from national through to individual cities and infrastructure projects. This is a chance for participants to share experiences of responding and managing disasters across participant countries and actions to build resilience to these. The session will include early warning systems, community engagement projects, building resilient structures and disaster management plans amongst other topics.
Format: Keynote, Oral and poster presentations.
August 15th – Building resilience across Asia
For this theme, we envisage bringing together the two days of talks, posters and networking and allow space for people to develop new projects and proposals. We intend to structure the event into smaller rooms to allow people space to explore a topic. To structure these, we will develop a panel discussion, followed by open discussion around certain topics. We will choose the topics based on the experience of those attending.
Format: Keynote presentations and panel discussion.
